The M12 connector is a circular connector with a 12mm locking thread and generally has an IP rating against ingress of liquids and solids. M12 connectors are ideal for sensors, actuators, and industrial Ethernet and fieldbus devices for measurement and control, communications, transportation, robotics, agriculture, and alternative energy. Suitable for industrial automation and corrosive environments.
The M12 connectors were initially released in 3-pin and 4-pin versions, which provided IP67 protection. A 4-pin M12 connector allows more advanced sensors and actuators to be incorporated into a single system. Today, these rugged connectors are available in 3-pin, 4-pin, 5-pin, 8-pin and 12-pin configurations. In addition to the different pin counts, M12 connectors utilize multiple key codings to prevent mis-mating.
